Celebrating National Activity Professionals Week
January 24, 2025
This National Activity Week, Canterbury Villa of Alliance is proud to celebrate the incredible team behind our vibrant activities department. Deanna Hydrick, Luanne Beadbell, and Stacy Eyler bring energy, passion, and creativity to every aspect of their work, enriching the lives of our residents and making our community a true home.
Deanna has been with us for 13 years and has 22 years of experience in healthcare. She began her journey as an activity assistant and later served as a social services designee before finding her calling in leading the activities department. Deanna’s passion is clear:
“Knowing I can make my residents smile and give them a reason to wake up,” she says. Whether it’s starting the day with morning groups filled with stretching, devotionals, and discussions about current events or organizing outings to exciting destinations, Deanna ensures our residents stay engaged and fulfilled.
Some of her favorite memories include hosting proms that make residents feel like superstars, complete with limousines, red carpets, and champagne toasts. She even celebrated her wedding at the facility, involving residents in every step of the special day including putting together the guest book, setting up the patio, catching the bouquet, dancing, and a grand cake. Staff and residents agree, Deanna always goes above and beyond to make every moment memorable. They shared,
“She’s the best,“ “She takes us to fun places,“ “She’s a sweetheart,“ and
“You know how to put on an event you’ll always go above and beyond!"
Luanne has been with Canterbury for two years after transitioning from her role as an STNA. Luanne believes deeply in the importance of social connection, saying,
“People need to be social. We need each other, and I like to make them laugh.” From leading painting crafts and outdoor activities to worship sessions, Luanne brings a contagious energy to everything she does.
Her favorite memories include the aquarium trip, the talent show, and the Christmas play—all events that highlight the hard work and creativity she pours into her role. Residents and staff lovingly call her the
“Energizer Bunny,” always moving, singing, and finding ways to make the activities department even better. They also shared,
“We are blessed to have her at Canterbury," and
“I could never replace Luanne. She never stops thinking about Activities and how she can make our department better.“
Stacy is our newest addition to the activities team, has only been with us for a week, but her 14 years of healthcare experience have already made an impression. Stacy is passionate about helping the elderly, especially those who can’t help themselves, and loves activities that spark joy and connection, like bingo, dance, and memory-jogging conversations about the past. Despite her short time with us, Stacy has seamlessly joined the team and earned praise from residents and staff for her enthusiasm and compassion.
At Canterbury Villa, our activities team isn’t just a department—it’s the heart of our community. Deanna, Luanne, and Stacy bring dedication, creativity, and warmth to their work, creating an environment where residents thrive socially, emotionally, and mentally. We are so grateful for their commitment to making every day brighter for our residents and for the joy they bring to Canterbury Villa.
