The Gift of Time and Music: Celebrating Our Beloved Volunteer
April 22, 2025
At Canterbury, we believe in celebrating the people who make a difference in the lives of our residents—and this week, we had the honor of recognizing one of those very special individuals. The Activity Department hosted a heartfelt appreciation dinner for longtime volunteer Thom Richardson, a man whose kindness, talent, and dedication have truly touched our entire community.
Over a delicious meal of lasagna, salad, and garlic bread, we came together to show our gratitude. Even our Resident Council President, Joe, joined the celebration to thank Thom personally for all he does.
Years ago, Thom walked through our doors with a business card and a simple offer: he wanted to sing for our residents. That one gesture quickly blossomed into a meaningful ministry. Since then, Thom has given his time and heart through countless performances, Veterans programs, holiday celebrations, and, most recently, leading our very first Good Friday service. With his warm voice and genuine spirit, Thom has brought joy, comfort, and connection to our residents and families time and time again.
Volunteers like Thom are the heartbeat of our home. They remind us that community is built on compassion, and that one person truly can make a difference. We are endlessly grateful for Thom and his wife Barb, and we consider ourselves blessed beyond measure to have them as part of our Canterbury family.
